Apple Keynote Theme for Aegir Presentations

I created this Keynote theme for my Aegir presentation (http://community.aegirproject.org/using-aegir-drupal-hosting-and-managem...).

I hope this may be helpful for others presenting on Aegir.

Aegir Ecology vs Drupal Gardens

-Aegir Ecology vs Drupal Gardens

Presentation given to Sacramento Drupal Users Group, June 2011, attended by Lullabot's quicksketch and others...

Comparing the Aegir Project ecosystem and the Drupal Gardens stack.

The Aegir Project is an open-sourced, libre and free Drupal hosting system that is already used in production to host thousands of Drupal sites in a managed networks.

Aegir allows the spawning of sites from popular company or community distro's such as Open Atrium, Open Public or COD (Conference Organizing Distribution).

There is also a growing, diverse ecosystem of Aegir contributed modules such as hosting payment integration to Ubercart or the automation of various hosting management tasks.

Aegir is composed of the Hostmaster installation profile, Drush and Provision and has an Aegir API for developers. Aegir is production ready and is the product of some of the best Drupal people in the community.

Drupal Gardens is an entry level hosting platform that is a product of Acquia and is built in Drupal 7. The hosting platform is proprietary and specific to the hosting provider.

Overview of Aegir and Dev/Stage/Production

I presented this at the Pacific Northwest Drupal Summit. Aegir received a warm reception which has nice to see. Feel free to use these slides in whatever way necessary. On images where credit is given, please make sure you give credit to the original authors. Thank you.

Pacific Northwest Drupal Summit

Key Points

  • Overview of what Aegir is and what it can do.
  • Introduction to key Aegir concepts
  • Discussion of current successes & remaining issues with Aegir in our environment
  • Our Dev/Stage/Production workflow
  • Live demonstration
  • ?'s and comments

Original Session Description

We have recently been developing a new hosting architecture utilizing the Aegir platform. In our quest to move towards a more professional development model of a development, staging/qa, and production server I have learned a lot about setting up Aegir and the subsystems necessary to successfully move a site from the dev server through the chain up to production. This session would cover at a high level installation and configuration of Aegir and leveraging their hub-spoke model to speed up movement of sites and to ensure a higher level of maintenance to all drupal installations.

Aegir proves immensely useful when porting sites from D5 to D6. We would also discuss our move towards git and how that does and does not dove-tail with Aegir. I would hope to showcase some of our pitfalls so that others can avoid them if they choose to use Aegir in the future.

This would most likely be a 30-35 minute presentation with the rest of the time being devoted to discussion.

Using Aegir for Drupal Hosting and Management - DrupalCampSC (2011-06-12)

Presentation description/abstract:

Using Aegir for Drupal Hosting and Management

This session will explore using Aegir to deploy, clone, upgrade, backup and restore Drupal web sites with live demonstrations on an actual Aegir server. Methods for creating new platforms by importing existing sites and using Drush Make files will also be presented. Using Aegir to deploy Drupal distributions such as Open Atrium, OpenPublish and COD will be demonstrated. In addition, this session will explain use cases for Aegir multi-server setups.

While the primary focus of the session will be using Aegir, system requirements and installation will be discussed briefly.

Presented at DrupalCampSC 2011 (http://drupalcampsc.com/)
